However, every so often, the city’s rapid evolution comes at a cost. Recent weeks have brought bittersweet news for the capital’s night owls and foodies alike: two of Warsaw’s most recognizable venues, STIXX Bar & Grill and Weles Bar, have closed their doors.
Whether you were in the mood for a lavish corporate dinner or a secretive midnight cocktail, these two spots defined a significant chapter of Warsaw’s modern entertainment landscape. Here is a look back at their legacy and the reasons behind their sudden disappearance from the map.
STIXX Bar & Grill: Making Way for the Skyline
For a decade, STIXX Bar & Grill was the beating heart of Plac Europejski. Known for its massive scale, vibrant energy, and unparalleled hospitality, it was the go-to destination for business dinners, weekend celebrations, live music, and excellent steaks.
On June 20th, STIXX hosted its final public trading day, officially bringing its 10-year run to an end. The closure, however, wasn’t due to a lack of popularity. The iconic building that housed STIXX is slated for demolition to make way for a monumental new urban development. In its place, the Chopin Tower will rise—a 130-meter skyscraper that will permanently alter the panorama of this part of Warsaw.
While the skyline gains a new architectural marvel, the nightlife scene loses a venue that was truly built around atmosphere and unforgettable late nights. As the owners stated in their farewell message, they look back with pride and gratitude. Ten years is a lifetime in the hospitality industry, and STIXX certainly made every year count.
Weles Bar: A Quiet Exit for the Ultimate Speakeasy
While the closure of STIXX was announced with a grand finale, the departure of another Warsaw legend has been much quieter, yet equally heartbreaking for cocktail lovers.
Weles, the legendary speakeasy located at Żurawia 6/12, was a pioneer in Warsaw’s craft cocktail movement. Hidden underground without a prominent street sign, walking into Weles felt like discovering a secret society. With its majestic crystal chandelier, tin-tiled ceilings, and intoxicating atmosphere, it was the undisputed king of Warsaw’s clandestine drinking spots.
There has been no loud farewell for Weles, but the real estate market tells the story. Recent commercial property listings show that the exact 222-square-meter underground space on Żurawia—complete with photos of the familiar, dimly lit bar—is currently up for rent and “available immediately.” The listing highlights the space’s premium location, foot traffic, and existing alcohol license, signaling the silent end of the Weles era.

The departure of both a grand-scale grill and an intimate speakeasy highlights the ever-changing nature of Warsaw. Urban development and shifting market dynamics mean that the city is in a constant state of flux.
